| On behalf of the organizing committee for the 8th
Annual Meeting of BBCS (Jack Kelly, Jo-Anne LeFevre, John
Logan, Lauren Meegan, Kate Oakley, Lise Paquet, Bill
Petrusic, Monique Sénéchal, Lew Stelmach, and myself),
I would like to invite you to attend and participate in
the conference and other activities that we are planning
for June 18 to 21, 1998 in Ottawa, Ontario. A call for
Submissions, Abstract Form, Survey, and accommodation
information are enclosed in this package. The 1998 conference will include a keynote address from the first recipient of the BBCS D.O. Hebb Distinguished Contribution Award. This award is to be presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the study of brain, behaviour, and cognitive science through sustained and meritorious research and training of students, and who has influenced the discipline through leadership as a theorist and/or spokesperson. The 1998 conference will also include a BBCS Hebb award for the best student presentation. A pre-conference workshop examining the use of confidence intervals vs. traditional hypothesis testing techniques is also being planned (please see survey) for Thursday evening. The opening night registration and reception is on Thursday June 18 and will include an optional dinner. We are exploring the possibility of a Rhythm & Blues night on Friday evening and a boat cruise along the Ottawa River on Saturday evening. Ottawa has many outstanding museums and galleries and an excellent selection of restaurants. For those of you with children, we are arranging for a number of spaces to be made available at the Carleton University DayCare Centre. Those attending the conference have the option of staying in the relatively new and air conditioned residence at Carleton University (forms are included), using one of the many fine hotels in Ottawa, or reserving a Bed & Breakfast. We have enclosed a membership application / renewal form for BBCS / SCCC. Please complete the form and return to the BBCS central office at Carleton University. We look forward to seeing you in Ottawa and hope that you will pass along word about the conference to other colleagues or students who may not be familiar with BBCS / SCCC. Sincerely , Chris Herdman Chairperson, BBCS / SCCC 1998 Organizing Committee |
