Building a More Inclusive and Welcoming Cognitive Science
APS Research Spotlight - Dr. Gordon Pennycook
The Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Sciences seeks to create an academic environment that promotes inclusion of all people regardless of colour, race, gender identity, ability, sexual orientation, and age. We are committed to raising awareness, and addressing racism-related, and discrimination-related, concerns that impact society, our members and the progression of science.
We join in solidarity, and support affected individuals. We recognize that some of our members encounter racism and discrimination on a daily basis. We stand ready to add our voices to support the voices of others, to bring about positive change, and to stand against injustice, discrimination, and racism in all forms.
The CSBBCS is committed to taking tangible actions meant to better understand and counter racism and discrimination, along with all of their harmful effects.
The CSBBCS Executive Board is assembling an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee to conduct a survey of members, to help inform and develop ways of eliminating systemic biases leading to a lack of diversity in science and the study of cognitive and brain sciences. A link to this survey will be sent to members in the Fall. The committee’s role will be to communicate with, and ask members about their experiences on campus, with research, in their University, and in academia, that will directly inform any changes to our Charter.A report of its findings will be presented at the CSBBCS Meeting in 2021.
